Farmland Porridge Steamboat @ KL

this is actually my 2nd trip to this “porridge steamboat” place. very simply, instead of soup / broth to cook your food, they use very “liquidfied” plain congee (porridge) as the soup base.

they have the usual sets for 2pax, 4 pax and so forth, but i didnt feel like eating too much fishballs, so i ordered my own fav dishes instead.

clay pot to for cooking instead of the conventional metal / steel pot.

love their “special” meatballs. theres some filling inside. a must try!

flower crab

if you absolutely love porridge / congee, i suggest you make your way to try this steamboat…

of coz they do serve plain soup and tom yam as well…..but thats pretty common :)

Food genre : steamboat / asian

price range : RM15 – RM45 per head depending if you order their set or individual dishes with seafood

Laksa Shack : Sets

the last time i ever ate at Laksa Shack was probably many many months ago. (cant even remember anymore) So this time, we decided to go ahead and walk in since we have some cravings.

i found that they now have got sets

set kelantan, set johor, set briyani & set melaka.

all of it looks just as good. these sets are for 2 pax or 4 pax.

we ordered Set Briyani which consists of rice + dhal + rendang + pickled veges + papadam + fish cake + watermelon.

the taste was better than expected much to my surprise. the red rendang was nice but the meat was a little too hard / tough for my liking. But apparently its suppose to be like that. The rice was a little dry but the herbs was not too strong either. which could be good.

only complaint is the watermelon which didnt look too appetizing so i gave that up. haha

so yeah…so give it a try. it was better than what i expected. ;)

grill fish : Petaling Street

my first time visit to this ever famous grill fish store i always hear about.
its situated right next to Hong Leong Bank and behind the famous mata kuching drink stall.

we arrived there approximately….7.45pm. the queue was already trememdously long and ppl were waiting. no more free tables around. but we still decided to take our orders since we specially went there for it.

we ordered grill fish and grilled lala (clams) for two. now this place is amazing. why? coz its my first time there and i am told to wait for 80minutes for the food. i insisted OK. bring it on! not only that, i have to pay a deposit of 10bucks to book my order so that they are 100% sure i’ll be back. (previously i heard that they only take 1ringgit as deposit. now they take 10! wow!)

so after walking around, wasting some time, had some roasted chestnut and “kwai ling gou”….we wnet back to the stall and there was not as many ppl anymore after 80 minutes!!! (i went back slightly earlier to get a table)

heres the food….

grilled stingray (the species that killed steve irwin!!! time for revenge!)
the sauce / gravy was very very spicy. other than spicy, i doubt there is anything else to describe.

the clams were alright, but kinda tasteless really. its all about the sauce. same sauce as the fish.

overall, i dont understand why ppl are going there to eat. i’m there coz i heard so much about it. but the food is just mainly salty and spicy. the clams didnt have much meat to it. and as you can see from the pictures, they basically used foil to wrap the food and cook it in high fire. which is actually pretty bad for health.

i guess its my one and only time going there. its not superbly a hygienic place really….shud have taken more pictures…but the place was quite dark…

kam heong crab
compared to other crab places i’ve been, its not super duper finger licking good. i would say..its fair.

buttered prawn
the prawns were good, though not super meaty big fat prawns, it was pretty alright.

kai lan with kai lan
i never really like this dish honestly, its basically kailan served with deep fried kai lan. means u get normal stir fried veges with crispy veges. dont like it cause its oily.

garlic scotland clams
this is by far the best dish. the fragrance of the garlic compliments the clams. but warning, this is the most expensive dish. 5 huge clams = RM80bucks. i think if not mistaken its RM120 per kg. so yeah…though its good, its not really worth that much. so much for a first time.

dun understand why there are so many ppl though. its actually located somewhere in kayu ara, in between damansara & tropicana. if you guys are from Klang Valley, from atria, going towards to centrepoint, keep to the left lane, and you will see a Volkswagon workshop. turn left at that junction and go all the way in, you wont be able to miss it. its a brightly litted hut.
