Farmland Porridge Steamboat @ KL

this is actually my 2nd trip to this “porridge steamboat” place. very simply, instead of soup / broth to cook your food, they use very “liquidfied” plain congee (porridge) as the soup base.

they have the usual sets for 2pax, 4 pax and so forth, but i didnt feel like eating too much fishballs, so i ordered my own fav dishes instead.

clay pot to for cooking instead of the conventional metal / steel pot.

love their “special” meatballs. theres some filling inside. a must try!

flower crab

if you absolutely love porridge / congee, i suggest you make your way to try this steamboat…

of coz they do serve plain soup and tom yam as well…..but thats pretty common :)

Food genre : steamboat / asian

price range : RM15 – RM45 per head depending if you order their set or individual dishes with seafood

Palate Palette @ Jalan Mesui

Just 2 doors away from NO BLACK TIE, you see this colourful bright little joint. I only heard about on newspapers few days back and decided to drop by because i saw the cool interior pictures from the papers.

well, there was no regret for sure. the place was cool, very niche, and most importantly, the food was great.

^ honey worchestire lamb with cheese was so so so good. they have it in their set menu

^ excellent creamy milky coffee shake!

^ apple mint juice…very refreshing~

food foundry @ seksyen 17, PJ

i know that there are heaps of other food served at food foundry, but i happen to be there that night for some chit chats and dessert. so this post does not do total justice to Food Foundry but at least i’m promoting their dessert aint i?

this is by far my favourite – their mille crepe, which comes in vanilla (original), ocha, chocolate & strawberry.

however, do not order their cream bulee. my friend ordered that and it tasted quite awful. we didnt even finish half of it.

apart from desserts and cakes, they serve malaysian food like nasi lemak and rendang, and they have tapas as well as pastas. lunch time is usually pack. lots of parking available here too, so u can relax and have a nice cup of coffee for your meeting without worrying about the meter.

i’ve been to this place prolly about 3 to 4 times now, and i felt that the food standard has dropped. i dunno what others think, but thats what i felt. ever since the 2nd time there, i’m only there for dessert.

do check it out. it is quite a nice little corner place.

Wendy’s Bistro @ Sunway

i first got to know this place when i met up with a client for a meeting and only ordered a cuppa tea. i was impressed with the ambience of the place and the whole black and white tiles deco.

so, i decided one night to head over there to have dinner (since they have very good shots of food on the wall, i might as well try it out right?)

the crowd was surprisingly good that night, hence the food was a little slow. as they were short handed that night and according to one of the staff that a chef walked out on them last night (must have been some misunderstanding…which restaurant doesnt get that right?)

so anyways, we were patient enough and waited for our food for about an hour. (according to waitress, its not usually like that…so they were forgiven). after looking thru the menu, we ordered portabello mushrooms, sausages and pork ribs. ALL were YUMMY.

must have been their signature dish – portabello mushroom

Boereworse sausages

main course – oriental spare ribs

The ribs was awesome. It has very well marinated, tender and juicy. and if not mistaken, they used some brandy or some alcohol in the marinate….mmmmm~ yums! (but the meat was a little tough towards the bones, so you have to get hands on onto your meal!)

The Magnificient @ Changkat, KL

settings of “The Magnificient”

pictures speaks a thouand words. looks like i dun even need to elaborate how good the food is here. just go there sit down, look at their board menu on the wall and u just want every single thing!

side orders : mashed peas, chips & salad that came along with the steak and kidney pie.

cant remember what fish this is anymore, but the potatoes was heavenly!

from pies to fish and chips to mash potatoes to oysters to cod fish…and so much more! they are very generous with their servings and the gravy as well. They also serve superb breakfast everyday and specially on weekends they have roast steak and eggs.

if not mistaken, on friday nights they have happy hour and bloody mary for the ladies….some promotion like buy one free one thing. and oh, apparently there is a pool table upstairs but we didnt go check it out.

last but not least, oysters was the reason we were there. i had oysters craving for the longest time. but only complain was that the oysters were not cold enough, but they were generous with the lemons. :)

Laksa Shack : Sets

the last time i ever ate at Laksa Shack was probably many many months ago. (cant even remember anymore) So this time, we decided to go ahead and walk in since we have some cravings.

i found that they now have got sets

set kelantan, set johor, set briyani & set melaka.

all of it looks just as good. these sets are for 2 pax or 4 pax.

we ordered Set Briyani which consists of rice + dhal + rendang + pickled veges + papadam + fish cake + watermelon.

the taste was better than expected much to my surprise. the red rendang was nice but the meat was a little too hard / tough for my liking. But apparently its suppose to be like that. The rice was a little dry but the herbs was not too strong either. which could be good.

only complaint is the watermelon which didnt look too appetizing so i gave that up. haha

so yeah…so give it a try. it was better than what i expected. ;)

grill fish : Petaling Street

my first time visit to this ever famous grill fish store i always hear about.
its situated right next to Hong Leong Bank and behind the famous mata kuching drink stall.

we arrived there approximately….7.45pm. the queue was already trememdously long and ppl were waiting. no more free tables around. but we still decided to take our orders since we specially went there for it.

we ordered grill fish and grilled lala (clams) for two. now this place is amazing. why? coz its my first time there and i am told to wait for 80minutes for the food. i insisted OK. bring it on! not only that, i have to pay a deposit of 10bucks to book my order so that they are 100% sure i’ll be back. (previously i heard that they only take 1ringgit as deposit. now they take 10! wow!)

so after walking around, wasting some time, had some roasted chestnut and “kwai ling gou”….we wnet back to the stall and there was not as many ppl anymore after 80 minutes!!! (i went back slightly earlier to get a table)

heres the food….

grilled stingray (the species that killed steve irwin!!! time for revenge!)
the sauce / gravy was very very spicy. other than spicy, i doubt there is anything else to describe.

the clams were alright, but kinda tasteless really. its all about the sauce. same sauce as the fish.

overall, i dont understand why ppl are going there to eat. i’m there coz i heard so much about it. but the food is just mainly salty and spicy. the clams didnt have much meat to it. and as you can see from the pictures, they basically used foil to wrap the food and cook it in high fire. which is actually pretty bad for health.

i guess its my one and only time going there. its not superbly a hygienic place really….shud have taken more pictures…but the place was quite dark…

recommended? Not really…
other notes : not clean, long wait, tasteless. smoking allowed. noisy and constantly being disturbed with beggars and salesman.
